Prof. Dina Shehayeb in the World Heritage City Lab – Cordoba, Spain

Prof. Dina Shehayeb was invited as a guest speaker in the World Heritage City Lab that took place in Cordoba, Spain, on the 12th, 13th, and 14th September 2022. The City Lab was organized by the World Monuments Fund España in collaboration with  UNESCO to discuss the urban heritage and traditional building practices for sustainable development. Prof. Dina talked about the “Sustainability Balance” between fulfilling the conflicting needs of insiders (residents and business owners) and outsiders (visitors, both local and global) in historic areas.

The purpose is to introduce alternative and innovative strategies and tools to address this recurring challenge that often leads to either the gentrification/depopulation of historic areas or their decline into physical dilapidation and economic downspin. The WMF España kindly invited the 11 ARUD students who were on their Architecture Study Trip to Spain to attend the City Lab and benefit from this international exposure to scholars and practitioners addressing key global challenges.
