Introduction to Engineering Design
An introduction to the methods, tools, and processes related to engineering design. The course gives the student the ability to communicate by means of engineering drawing, including Orthographic representation of complex shapes, assembly drawing, projects of complex shapes, acquiring the skill of dealing with complex shapes and study their geometrical properties. The students are also familiarized with some of the important engineering tools for graphical modeling including Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD). In addition to a general introduction to the basic mechanical components and how they are graphically represented, such as gears, belts, bearings, threaded parts as well as introduction to dimensional and geometrical tolerances and their applications. Group projects and case studies in engineering are used to illustrate engineering principles
