Building Ecology

Methods for the description and evaluation of ecological performance of building elements, components, systems and structures, seeking the comfort of the user. It introduces the students to local and global green building regulations. It teaches students the application of LCA (Life-Cycle Assessment) and EIA (Environmental Impact Analysis) techniques in the building domain, analysis of the environmental footprint of buildings, and sustainability implications of design and construction decisions including the advances in new building materials and their technologies. The course also addresses the building as an integral part of the urban context and its impact and contribution to the environmental, social and economic dimensions of the context as a whole.
